Measurements of μ → 3e decay with polarised muons as a probe of new physics

چکیده

Working within the Standard Model effective field theory approach, we examine possibility to test charged lepton flavour violating (cLFV) new physics (NP) by angular measurements of outgoing electron and positrons in polarised μ+→e+e+e− decay. This decay is planned be studied with a sensitivity branching ratio Bμ→3e∼10−15 Mu3e experiment at PSI. To illustrate potential these measurements, consider set eight operators generating tree level, including dimension-five dipole dimension-six scalar vector four-fermion different chiralities. We show that if observed induced single operator, data from three observables – two P-odd asymmetries one T-odd asymmetry can allow discriminate between all considered exception opposite chirality. For types operators, maximal magnitude; they distinguished, principle, measuring helicities positrons. The observation non-zero would indicate presence rate operator interference term T (CP) violating.

Using muons to probe for new physics

Searches for new physics using muons are reviewed. Particular attention is paid to muon number non-conserving processes, like the decay μ → eγ and muon–electron conversion in muonic atoms. Also, experimental determinations and theoretical predictions for the muon anomalous magnetic moment are reviewed. Muons were first observed in cosmic ray detectors in 1936 [1, 2]. However, for several follow...

νν̄ as a Probe of New Physics

We summarize the theoretical virtues of the rare K → πνν̄ decays and emphasize the unique role ofKL → π νν̄ in probing the nature of physics beyond the Standard Model, in particular concerning possible new sources of CP violation and flavorsymmetry breaking. A brief summary of the prospects for the measurement of the KL → π νν̄ rate is also given.

Inflation as a probe of new physics

In this paper we consider inflation as a probe of new physics near the string or Planck scale. We discuss how new physics can be captured by the choice of vacuum, and how this leads to modifications of the primordial spectrum as well as the way in which the universe expands during inflation. Provided there is a large number of fields contributing to the vacuum energy – as typically is expected ...

μ Flavor Violation as a Probe of the Scale of New Physics

Motivated by the recent strong experimental evidence of large νμ − ντ neutrino mixing, we explore current bounds on the analogous mixing in the charged lepton sector. We present a general formalism for dimension6 fermionic effective operators involving τ − μ mixing with typical Lorentz structure (μΓτ)(qΓq), and discuss their relationship to the standard model gauge symmetry and the underlying f...

Neutrinoless Double Beta Decay: Electron Angular Correlation as a Probe of New Physics

The angular distribution of the final electrons in the so-called long range mechanism of the neutrinoless double beta decay (0ν2β) is derived for the general Lorentz invariant effective Lagrangian. Possible theories beyond the SM are classified from their effects on the angular distribution, which could be used to discriminate among various particle physics models inducing 0ν2β decays. However,...
